Ever since Massimo Cellino told the Italian press he’d had Liverpool on the phone regarding a transfer for Sandro Tonali, the secret has been out: Jürgen Klopp likes the midfielder.
A regular at Brescia at just 18 years of age, the youngster has attracted a lot of interest from all around Europe, with claims late last year that Chelsea were thinking of bidding, while Napoli and Juventus are also reportedly keeping an eye on his situation.
Cellino’s demands of €35m or so have calmed everything down for now, but clubs, including Liverpool, are still keeping an eye on Tonali’s progress.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, the Reds sent a scout on Sunday to watch the midfielder against Spezia in a 4-4 draw, during which the man in question found the back of the net in the 24th minute.
It seems highly unlikely that Tonali, who has been near ever-present in Brescia’s push for Serie A promotion, will leave in January, but this is definitely one to keep an eye on for next summer.
Much like Nicolo Barella, the youngster could be one of the big stories of the next transfer window.
