In most Barcelona transfer stories we see these days, there’s a mention to the club elections, as the Catalan side are only expected to seriously work on signings once they get a new president.
However, with the chase for Manchester City defender Eric Garcia not having a happy ending in January, there’s now a feeling at the Camp Nou side that they should’ve invested in him.
The 2-0 loss to Sevilla last night had a lot to do with defensive problems, and that was a reason for presidential candidate Victor Font to claim that Garcia should’ve been in the squad by now.
“If the elections had been in January, surely he’d be here at Barça and it wouldn’t matter who would’ve won.”
The main reason why Barcelona didn’t want to spend much on Garcia’s signing is that the defender’s contract with Manchester City expires in the summer, making him able to arrive at the Camp Nou for free.
With only nine appearances for Pep Gaurdiola’s side this season, the 20-year-old is expected to go back home, as he’s already been at Barça’s academy in his youth years.
