Last summer Ivan Perisic was linked so strongly and repeatedly with Manchester United that at several times it felt like a matter of when and not if.
The Premier League club didn’t match Inter Milan’s requests and Perisic renewed with the Italian side. Jose Mourinho didn’t get his man and it seems to be something which has irritated the manager since.
Perisic links inevitably started again this summer but it hasn’t felt anything like last year. Manchester United signed Alexis Sanchez in the winter transfer window, and the English club have priorities elsewhere in Mourinho’s squad.
Speaking to Croatia’s Sportske Novosti, Perisic was asked about the Manchester United interest and what his transfer status is right now.
“Last year I signed a new contract with Inter for five years and I really have the top status that I always wanted.
He’s certainly not ruling out a transfer then.
Asked about where he’d like to play in the future, the Inter player said: “Honestly, I’d like to try out all these leagues but the question is how much time I will have for all this. Now I’m 29, I work to make my career as long as possible, I work every day and try to be as fit as possible. I would like to go to England and Spain, but I repeat, the question is whether I will have time for that.”
Then he was asked about Bayern Munich rumours, with Croatian Niko Kovac now being the manager: “Once again I congratulate him on this great job he made in the German Bundesliga and a huge transfer to the German football giant. Bayern is in line with Real, Barcelona and Manchester. As far as I’m concerned, if they want to, they know where I am.”
It’s probably fortunate Perisic didn’t say all this earlier on in the summer, otherwise the rumours would have certainly built more.
