According to Aksam, Schalke have pulled out of the race to sign Huddersfield Town’s Steve Mounié, making Besiktas the only interested party at the moment for the Benin international.

Mounie wasn’t a part of last two matchday squads for Huddersfield in Championship as he’s expected to leave the club before the European transfer window shuts on 2nd of September.

Aksam claim Besiktas and Schalke were competing for the player but the latter decided not to pursue the player, where he could have reunited with David Wagner, his former manager.

It’s also reported Besiktas are looking to loan the player with an option to buy as they are waiting for Huddersfield to drop their demands over the player.

However, it seems Stefano Okaka could be the option they go for after Watford reached an agreement with the Turkish side over a temporary deal.

The former Montpellier player was great in his debut season in the Premier League but last season, he has struggled to perform during the last campaign as Huddersfield dropped back down to the Championship.
