Stuttgart chief Sven Mislintant has confirmed he is in talks with Arsenal over extending Konstantinos Mavropanos’ loan deal at the club.
The Greek defender has been on loan with the German side this season and, after a difficult first half of the campaign, has established himself as a key player in the second half of the season.
They are keen to keep hold of him but cannot afford a permanent deal, and all indications were that he would return to Arsenal in the summer.
However, the situation has changed recently, with a report in Germany indicating that Arsenal had opened the door to another loan deal.
Mislintat has now confirmed as much, telling Kicker ‘we’re trying to get a loan’ and confirming that ‘buying is difficult in the current situation. Now there is a bit of back and forth.’ With the newspaper adding that he is ‘optimistic’ about working something out.
That would suggest a second loan deal for Mavropanos is very much on the cards and could be concluded sooner rather than later.
That would certainly suit the German side, whose persistence appears to have convinced Arsenal to let them have Mavropanos back for another year.
