When Nottingham Forest started signing Portuguese players this summer, we (and basically everyone else, to be frank) pointed out they were using the same strategy as Wolverhampton Wanderers to get to the Premier League.

Now with the Championship season kicking off tonight, the Portuguese press finally has a big story about it, saying ‘Wolves are an example for Forest’.

Listing all the players who moved to Nottingham Forest this summer and taking quotes from Diogo Gonçalves and Aitor Karanka in their presentations, newspaper Record shows that the club are ready to challenge Wolves’ 99 points campaign… which is a huge ask.

Another fact that proves their theory is that the most expensive signing of the summer, João Carvalho, now replaces Ruben Neves, who was bought by Wolverhampton last year.

Nottingham Forest signed three Portuguese players this summer: João Carvalho and Diogo Gonçalves from Benfica and Gil Dias from Monaco. Tobias Figueiredo, who had already been at the club on a loan from Sporting, was also acquired permanently.

Let’s see how this plan will work out this time.

One thing is for sure, Nottingham Forest are Portugal’s new adopted Championship team.
