Taken off before half time against Manchester City on Sunday, Manchester United’s Raphaël Varane’s injury caused some concern among both the Old Trafford faithful and those of the France national team.

The defender suffered a number of setbacks during his first season with the Red Devils, but his start to the season under Erik ten Hag had seen him impress and remain fully fit.

However, the Manchester United centre-back came off against Pep Guardiola’s side at the Etihad after around 40 minutes, but didn’t go straight down the tunnel.

Reports in England have suggested the injury isn’t that bad, and L’Equipe in France provide a tad more detail on Monday afternoon.

They claim the examinations undergone on Monday ‘didn’t reveal ligament damage’ in his ankle, meaning he suffering from a ‘sprain without ligament damage or bone fragments’.

However, the doctors in charge have yet to give a timeline for his return, but the French newspaper explain he ‘shouldn’t be away from the pitches for a long period’, giving both Manchester United and Didier Deschamps a nice boost.
