On Saturday we covered claims from Italy that Newcastle United are particularly interested in Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha and that the Albanian is a ‘concrete’ target for the club, who ‘move strongly’ for him.
It was thought an offer was ready to be made for the 24 year old, although there was no price estimate added to the claims.
The whole thing felt unlikely, given the goalkeepers Newcastle already have at the club. They don’t have a manager right now, yet if Mike Ashley and his staff decided on a transfer that probably wouldn’t stand in the way of talks.
Now things sound even less likely, despite Gazzetta dello Sport talking the claims up further.
That’s because in their Sunday edition, the Italian newspaper state Newcastle are ‘ready to offer’ €40m.
That smashes all the club’s spending of recent seasons to pieces, it’s close to being unthinkable.
Even so, Gazzetta say Lazio aren’t considering a sale at this time. Perhaps this is just some player PR, but surely they could have picked a club it’s conceivable a €40m offer would come from.
