Even though reports from Argentina and Portugal have been insisting that Benfica are close to signing Benjamin Rollheiser from Estudiantes, Newcastle United still seem to have a chance to win that race.

Just last week, it had been claimed in South America that the Eagles are at the ‘final stage’ of their pursuit, with the La Plata side admitting that they’ll need to sell their star.

However, as SIC Notícias now talk about Benfica’s pursuit, they make it clear that Newcastle are still a threat to the Portuguese side.

On Jogo Alberto, Luis Aguillar claimed that in case the Magpies go from their ‘intention to action’, then the Eagles should start ‘looking for another target’, as they’d hardly win that dispute. Firstly, because the St. James’ Park’s side have a lot more money to spend, and then because of the player’s chance of moving straight to the Premier League.

SIC claims Rollheiser has a €10m market value, and Benfica had been negotiating that price with Estudiantes. It’s made clear that Newcastle are still to make their move, but in case they do, they’re very likely to win this race.
