Turkish newspaper Star reported Galatasaray winger Garry Rodrigues wants to stay at the club amid interest from Newcastle United.

The Cape Verde international played a huge role in Galatasaray’s 21st domestic league title but there are reports in the Turkish media linking him to the Premier League side.

Earlier this week, we covered reports from the Turkish press that Galatasaray want €20m for their asset, and that Newcastle United are looking to enter into talks to sign the player.

According to Star, Rodrigues wants his salary to be reviewed by Galatasaray and a wage that reflects his status in the team. This has led to claims he could leave the Turkish club this summer.

However, Star say Rodrigues has reportedly told his close friends: “I have no intention to leave Galatasaray. I am already playing for a big club. I am focused for Champions League and I love Turkey.”

Despite these reported comments Galatasaray’s financial situation could force them to sell Rodrigues, and this will become clearer next week when UEFA make a decision with regards to FFP.

This could give Newcastle United and other interested clubs a chance to land the 27 year old, and the Magpies have reportedly made contact with his club in the past week.
