Despite Newcastle United’s financial situation and ability to spend vasts amount of money if they so wish, the Premier League club are also eyeing up a few bargain deals.
Adrien Rabiot is one of them, with the France international on Eddie Howe’s list for some time, and whose contract at Juventus expires in less than two weeks.
Corriere dello Sport cover his situation on Monday, explaining that Newcastle are still keen on the midfielder, and have already made a move for him.
According to the newspaper, the Magpies have made an ‘expression of interest’ in the player, and are said to have ‘put €5m on the plate per season’, which is currently €2m fewer than what he is earning in Turin.
What works in Newcastle’s favour is that they will be playing in the next edition of the Champions League, which is a competition Rabiot ‘has always shown to appreciate a lot’.
Juventus, down their end, will have to make do with the Conference League after finishing 7th in Serie A (they had 10 points deducted), and cannot offer him that.
However, the appreciation of Max Allegri for Rabiot’s skills means Juventus are making it clear they would like to keep him, and ‘that could lead to one more of the same €7m/year’ he currently earns.
Something worth keeping an eye on, as Newcastle try to save some money in one area to perhaps spend more in another.
