Newcastle United’s owners have shown interest to takeover KV Oostende, if claims coming out of Belgium are to be believed.

In the last few days, a delegation from the Public Investment Fund [PIF] made a trip to Belgium to take a look at Oostende’s facilities. This was widely reported in the Belgian media and now echoed by journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

He took to Twitter to provide more updates on Newcastle’s owners wanting to add the second division Belgian club to their stable.

According to the journalist, the PIF are aiming to invest in Belgium and more specifically, Oostende.

He claims the Magpies owners are ‘seduced’ by the club, who were officially relegated to the Challenger Pro League a few days ago, and the discussions for a takeover are ‘at an advanced stage’.

In another tweet, Tavolieri states that if the deal goes through, Oostende should be sold for approximately €12m. If this is true, then Newcastle owners would be in line to carry out a bargain deal.

On Wednesday, the Belgian city’s mayor, Bart Tommelein, told Het Laatste Nieuws that he would welcome Newcastle takeover of Oostende.

HLN also stated Oostende are in ‘troubled waters’, and their current custodians are keen to move them on.

The PIF could help the Belgian club improve their situation, if their takeover attempt goes through.
