Newcastle United defender Emil Krafth has rejected a call-up to the Sweden squad for the next international break, having been a surprise inclusion in the first place.
That’s according to Aftonbladet, who explain the 28-year-old is one of nine ‘cancellations’ that Sweden boss Janne Andersson has received.
He named his squad for the Nations League fixtures this week but made the strange decision to try and include Krafth and Celtic’s Carl Starfelt.
The latter is only out until October, but the Newcastle man is set for a longer period on the sidelines, have suffered a cruciate ligament injury in the draw with Manchester City earlier this month.
He’s set to be out until February next year so was never going to be able to feature this month, so his inclusion made little sense.
We won’t be getting into any conspiracy theories on that front, but the Newcastle man has rejected it either way.
In fact, he is not the only one to do so with Hjalmar Ekdal, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Kerim Mrabti, Joakim Nilsson, Jesper Karlsson, Carl Starfelt and Filip Helander also doing the same.
