When Alexande Mattos revealed he’s accepted a job offer from Reading, he claimed he would be working somewhere else while the club sorted out his work permit.
Cruzeiro, the club where he got famous for his job as a director in 2013 and 2014, have just been relegated in the Brazilian league. So he’s offered himself to work for free for three months.
But as reported by Globo Esporte today, Mattos has already left his position, only four days after taking the job.
Speaking to the website, Mattos said the reason for it is because Pedro Lourenço has stepped down as the club’s vice-president, and he felt he should do the same.
“Pedrinho took me. I can’t disturb who gets his place. Always at the disposal of Cruzeiro, but who took me left. I can’t stay for principles, right?”
Still, in only for days, Globo Esporte says Mattos was capable of working on several deals for the club, both for incoming and outgoing transfers.
Now Mattos should wait until the paperwork is done and he can finally join Reading. The Championship side has been getting big coverage in Brazil, with daily stories about the club’s owners, their history and even their transfer plans.
Reading players such as Rafael Cabral and Pedro Neves have also been speaking to the Brazilian press about their expectations around Mattos’ arrival at the club.
