Now Manchester City’s most expensive player of all time (so far), Riyad Mahrez appears to have settled in well at the Etihad, showing glimpses of his quality over the first couple of games of the new season.
The forward has yet to find the back of the net or assist a goal for Pep Guardiola’s side, but came very close against Arsenal, with a shot flying just wide of Petr Cech’s goal.
Speaking to RMC Sport just before his side’s 6-1 thumping of Huddersfield at the weekend, the Algeria international explained why he feels so comfortable at Manchester City, and it’s all thanks to his teammates.
He said: “I adapted well. I was helped a lot. It’s very easy to fit in. All the players are very welcoming and very nice. No one here is big headed. They’re all nice people”.
Swapping Leicester City for the most recent Premier League champions is certainly a huge step in the 27-year-old’s career, but it’s the one he wanted to make above all.
He continued: “It’s the club I needed. I didn’t want to play for anyone else other than Manchester City, because of their style of play, because of the manager”.
Prior to his move to the Etihad, Mahrez was key to Leicester City’s surprising Premier League triumph back in 2015-16, and continued his good form ever since, eventually getting the big move he had been looking for over the past year or so.
Now it’s up to him to prove he’s worth every penny of the £60m or so Manchester City paid for him back in July.
