Following his transfer to Aston Villa, Youri Tielemans sat down with Sud Info in Belgium as he settles down for a week or so with the Belgium national team.

The midfielder decided to run down his Leicester City contract and sign for the Villa Park side despite interest from Italy for his services.

Tielemans will now be able to enjoy a full pre-season with Aston Villa, having dealt with his future early in the summer, and that’s something he’s looking forward to.

Speaking with the newspaper about the move, he was asked why he made the choice to head to Aston Villa over other clubs.

He said: “I saw a very nice project on the table. Discussions with the club were very positive. The manager convinced me. Aston Villa are a big club that has the ambition to continue its rise to the top. We already have a great team. Let’s see what we can do in the European Cup next season.”

As to what Unai Emery said to him that made him want to choose Aston Villa: “He gave me all his confidence and explained his technical and tactical plans, how he wants to see me play. I liked his speech. I was impressed by the passion he exudes and his professionalism.”

Arriving at Leicester City from AS Monaco, Tielemans went on to make 195 appearances for the club, scoring 28 goals and providing his teammates with 26 assists along the way.

His contract with the club ends at the end of the month, at which point his new Aston Villa one will start.
