Belgium manager Domenico Tedesco has insisted he will continue to use Amadou Onana as a number six in his side, despite him being used differently at Goodison Park.
The Red Devils boss has been speaking to RTBF about his squad, having enjoyed a superb start to life as Belgium boss during the international break last month.
Everton star Onana was part of that squad and started both games, playing in a more defensive, protective role in front of the back four.
He shined in that role too, earning rave reviews for his performances alongside Romeo Lavia and Orel Mangala in the wins over Germany and Sweden.
The role he played under Tedesco was a far cry from the one he plays at Everton, where he has been allowed to be more of an offensive threat under Frank Lampard and even Sean Dyche.
Tedesco is more than aware of that but insists that he has no plans to change how he’ll be using the midfielder moving forwards.
“He plays as an eight at Everton, but for us, he is a six who plays in front of the defence,” he said.
“We’ll see for the other games, because he wants to be in the team. It doesn’t matter what position, he wants to help the team.
“He is young and sometimes you forget he is only 21. He can even play for the national U21 team. He is very mature. He learned a lot when he was in Germany.
“Now he is in England at a good club, because it is not easy to play at Everton, where the fans are there and the stadium is beautiful. And he is performing well.”
