Liverpool forward Luis Díaz has sent a message to his teammates following the Reds’ poor start to this campaign.
The Merseyside club have managed to win four of their 10 matches in all competitions, out of which two have come in the league, against Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United.
Their latest win came against Rangers in the Champions League group stage tie on Tuesday. After Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over the Scottish club at Anfield, ESPN South America had a chat with Díaz.
“We weren’t doing so well in the previous games, but thank God we were able to get a good result. We must try to gain the confidence we need to achieve the triumphs and objectives. It was a great game, everyone gave their best,” he said, as relayed by AS.
Jürgen Klopp started the Colombia international, Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah in attack, and the trio played behind Darwin Núñez, against Rangers.
Regarding this formation, Díaz explained: “It’s a different formation, I think that if you know how to carry it, it makes you work on the issue of pressure, being well positioned, knowing how to play defensively and offensively. Try to copy what the coach asks of us, take it to the field and do it well. It depends on each one of us.
“It’s the characteristic of this team, intensity, high pressure, being intense on every ball. We know that if more duels are won, things go better. Hopefully that intensity will never be lacking.”
Liverpool’s next fixture is against league leaders Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday. The former FC Porto star stressed the latest win over Rangers can help them against the Gunners.
“It will be very important to be focused at the start of the game like we did today. We know the group we have and it was important for us to win to gain more confidence,” Díaz added.
“They will come to do what they are doing, we are going for the victory and hopefully we can achieve it.”
