Earlier this month, reports in Spain and Argentina covered Valencia interest in signing Nicolas Otamendi this summer.

On July 15th, Argentinean outlet Ole explained Manchester City have an agreement with the defender to let him leave the club, but a certain amount must be paid for the transfer.

Multiple reports coming out of Spain have now suggested the La Liga side have ruled out the possibility of signing the 31-year-old.

El Desmarque claims the South American earns €6m net per season with Pep Guardiola’s side and his high salary has made it ‘practically unfeasible’ for Valencia to sign him.

They also believe paying high wages to the player may create an imbalance in the squad.

Plaza Deportiva just says signing Otamendi has been ruled out at Valencia, without providing any additional details.

Super Deporte explains Valencia decided not to sign him for sporting and financial reasons.

Ezequiel Garay, Gabriel Paulista and Mouctar Diakhaby are the club’s three centre-back options and Valencia will only look for a new one if one is sold.
