For the past month or so, several reports have stated Newcastle United are keen to sign RB Leipzig star Dominik Szoboszlai in the summer window.
Earlier this month, the attacking midfielder admitted he would consider an option to join the Magpies.
Bild now state Newcastle’s chances of securing the 22-year-old’s services could be impacted by his teammate, Joško Gvardiol.
Gvardiol’s sale would help Leipzig improve their finances and also help them retain their other stars, including Szoboszlai. Despite this, the report adds the German club’s ‘hands are tied to some extent’ because the latter has a €70m release clause in his deal.
Bild state the money raised from Gvardiol’s exit would allow the Bundesliga side not to reduce the price for the Hungary international, which is what Newcastle have been hoping for. There have been claims that Eddie Howe’s side want to make a €60m bid for him.
It’s said Szoboszlai’s €70m clause is ‘too much for Newcastle’, especially after they spent big to bring AC Milan’s Sandro Tonali to the Tyneside club.
The difference in valuation has convinced Leipzig, for now, to retain the Hungarian amid interest from Newcastle.
