When Arsenal decided to send Folarin Balogun on loan to Stade de Reims for the season, few expected to go as well as it has.

The striker has scored five goals and picked up two assists in his first eight league games for the Ligue 1 side, and has carried on that form for England’s U21s.

He scored in the 3-1 win over Germany before coming off in the 70th minute, which is what both Arsenal and Reims will be wanting to see as he continues to develop.

In fact, the player is doing so well that Jeunes Footeux are reporting Mikel Arteta is thinking about leaving him in France for a while longer.

The French outlet explain that despite his performances, the player is still ‘a bit tender to impose himself at the Gunners’, where the Spanish manager is ‘keeping a very attentive eye on the performances of the New York native’.

That’s why Arteta ‘would like for him to extend his contract at Arsenal and be loaned an extra season at Reims for him to get game time under his belt’.

Jeunes Footeux then say that ‘the extension by a season of the loan’ is ‘currently being studied’, which would only take place if Reims were to ensure their status in Ligue 1.

Therefore, if the club were to be relegated to Ligue 2 (they are currently 17th), Balogun would return to Arsenal.
