Lucas Perez has been linked with an exit from Arsenal since the winter transfer window.
Not getting the prominence he would like under Arsene Wenger, it’s curious to consider what Perez actually thought he’d be getting with a move to the London club.
Public pushing and pressure from his agent for Arsenal to lower their asking price, and subsequently take a big loss hasn’t so far worked, and nor should it, and Perez probably needs to look beyond his preferred destination of Deportivo La Coruna.
Newcastle United links have been growing and Tuesday’s edition of Marca reports the club are pushing forward. Rafael Benitez is said to be the man behind the deal, as he feels Perez could provide a good option for Newcastle.
The Newcastle option could be good for both Arsenal and Perez, with the club able to provide a reasonable transfer fee, and a good level, if not a return to Spanish football.
Marca say Arsenal are asking for €15m, which has presumably been too much for Depor so far.
Perez to Newcastle United claims will be more exciting for the club’s fans than links with Stoke City’s Joselu, which appeared a few days ago.
Perez has at least shown flashes in the Premier League which suggest he can be a good option for Benitez at Newcastle.
Marca’s headline says Newcastle ‘bid’ for Perez, but that’s more in the proceed with their attempts use of the word, rather than meaning there’s been an actual offer.
