Bruno Fernandes’ transfer to Manchester United continues to be one of the big topics of the day in the Portuguese media.
It’s now time for people to comment on the move, which is expected to be announced by the Red Devils today or tomorrow.
Sporting legend Manuel Fernandes has been interviewed by Radio Renascença on Wednesday. He’s obviously not happy that the Lions are losing their captain and best player, but admits there was no way for the club to hold him for longer.
“He was a team captain that Sporting had and no longer have. It’s understood. He couldn’t possibly stay at Sporting,” Manuel Fernandes told Renascença (via A Bola).
“Bruno deserves to leave for what he gave Sporting these three years. Deserves to go to a top European club, despite Manchester United not doing very well these last few years.”
Manuel Fernandes has also spoken about Bruno’s playing style, saying his long shot is something that should work well in the Premier League: “It’s something that the English really appreciate and it will be useful.”
“In England, there are no teams playing with very low lines and the bottom club are able to compete on the pitch of the top without any problem. It’s a league to the image of Bruno Fernandes, I think he’ll be very successful at Manchester United.”
Bruno Fernandes is set to join Manchester United for an initial fee of €55m plus another €25m in bonuses. With the medical expected to be conducted in the next 24 hours, we should soon have the end of one of the longest transfer sagas we’ve covered.
