Manchester United loanee Joel Pereira had his first league win for Belenenses this weekend. With a 1-0 away victory against Feirense on Saturday, this was the first three points the club has achieved since early September.
Speaking to A Bola, the Manchester United owned goalkeeper said: “More important than the performance, mine or from others, was the team’s win. We yearned it, it was deserved. We ran a lot and were very united. It moralises us for the next game, against Porto.”
Pereira had a short loan spell from Manchester United at Rochdale last season, but only made eight appearances for the club. Considering that the player’s loan in Portugal runs until the end of the season and he’s now a regular starter, he should finally have a whole year to prove himself.
Belenenses have no buying option over him, so he’s returning to Manchester United in the summer, where his contract expires in 2020, unless something changes between now and then.
The player was also called up for Portugal’s U-21 squad, and he’ll face Czech Republic and Netherlands in the next couple of weeks.
The Manchester United youngster recently spoke about his desire to one day represent the club, and his faith in manager Jose Mourinho to bring success to Old Trafford.
