As claims emerged on Wednesday afternoon that Manchester United were getting closer to signing Adrien Rabiot, La Repubblica in Italy back that up.
The newspaper don’t spend too long on the matter, which appears to be heading in the right direction, but what they do say is quite interesting.
As Erik ten Hag looks for a new midfielder at Manchester United, Rabiot became a new target when a deal for Frenkie de Jong became increasingly complicated to pull off.
It’s all moved rather quickly, as Juventus are keen to sell the Frenchman and get his big wages off their books, and all eyes were turned on whether or not the Red Devils would be able to strike a deal with the player’s mother, Véronique, who is also his agent.
They claim ‘the negotiation’ for the player’s transfer ‘is close to conclusion’, with the player now ‘one step away’ from a move to Old Trafford for a fee of €17m plus bonuses.
These are bold claims that could easily backfire if it all falls through, so don’t jump for joy just yet, but it’s certainly looking promising.
