Manchester United’s defeat to Sevilla and subsequent exit from the Champions League has prompted a fresh round of articles linking David De Gea to Real Madrid.
It’s assumed De Gea must be frustrated at Old Trafford and worried about his future at the Premier League club, having doubts over whether they’ll be back at football’s top table soon enough.
The claims were further helped by Thibaut Courtois’ performance for Chelsea against Barcelona last week, and the goalkeeper didn’t exactly cover himself in glory.
It’s been thought in Spain for some time that Courtois would like Madrid to move for him, but if the Barcelona match was his audition then he failed it.
Don Balon in their own style go way over the top on Monday and report that Florentino Perez is ‘finally’ going to get his man. The Manchester United transfer is said to be ‘almost’ in hand for Perez, but it’s likely wishful thinking from one of Spain’s more excitable websites.
It would be no surprise if De Gea to Real Madrid is reported more frequently by more serious Spanish news outlets between now and the summer. A Manchester United renewal would go some way to stopping all that.
