Rasmus Højlund finally found the back of the net again at the weekend, scoring against Leicester City in a 3-0 victory on Sunday evening.
For the player himself it will have been a huge relief after months of questions about his form. He appeared to be playing with added confidence in the second-leg of Manchester United’s Europa League tie with Real Sociedad, and therefore it felt like the longed-for goal was perhaps on it’s way.
Now with the Danish national side, and no doubt thrilled to have got a goal in his last match before joining up, Rasmus Højlund has been speaking to the media.
He was recently seen being comforted and advised by Manchester United and Denmark legend Peter Schmeichel, and it’s inevitable he’s been asked about that by the country’s media.
Tipsbladet quoted the forward as saying: “Peter helps me occasionally and listens to how I’m feeling – both when things are going well and when things are going badly.
“I wouldn’t call him a father figure, but he helps a lot because he’s been through it before. He knows what it means to play for Manchester United as a Dane. It’s nice to have someone to spar with on that front.
“It’s also a bit about finding your own path. Christian also helps me and the others, but if there are people who come and want a little help, I’m available, both for everyone here and Patrick and Chido.”
Ruben Amorim is finding his feet as Manchester United manager and the change will have been especially big for Højlund, given it was Erik ten Hag, and the manager’s agency, who took him from Atalanta to Old Trafford.
On how he’s finding like under the Portuguese coach, Højlund is quoted as saying: “I’m focused on the task with Ruben, because that project is incredibly exciting, but Erik was of course one of the reasons why I moved to Manchester United. He was doing something good and was a talented coach, but it didn’t work out, and that’s how it is.
“I’m still very happy to be at Manchester United. It’s the club I’ve always dreamed of playing for. And I’m really happy for Ruben. He’s a cool character and a cool person.”
