Mateo Retegui’s father, Carlos Retegui, has revealed they’ve held talks with English clubs amid links to Manchester United.

Retegui has been starring at Tigre on loan from Boca Juniors since February last year, with 29 goals and three assists in 50 games for the club so far.

That has seen him linked with a move to Europe, where several teams are believed to be considering a potential move for the 23-year-old.

Manchester United were brought into the picture at the beginning of February, with it explained they are one of several sides eyeing up him after his performances.

The Reds are believed to be on the hunt for a new striker, although Retegui would likely be a player to develop for the future rather than someone who could star in Erik ten Hag’s side in the present.

Either way, Manchester United’s ‘strong interest’ is believed to be there and his father has now admitted they’ve held talk with English sides about a potential move.

“With AC Milan we have never had contact, but we have however spoken with several Italian, English, Spanish and German clubs,” he told Tuttomercatoweb.

“I confess that Udinese tried to find him in January, but Mateo is very attached to Tigre and so he decided to stay. El Matador believed in him a lot.

“I’ll tell you the truth. My son dreams of playing in Europe one day, but today he is only focused on the present.

“His card belongs to Boca Juniors and Tigre has the possibility of buying 50% of it, so we will need to find an agreement with both clubs to get him.”
