Manchester United are in the picture for AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, according to claims from Italy.
The goalkeeper’s current deal runs down at the end of next month and he hasn’t signed a new contract so far.
Milan, for their part, have already started searching for the 22-year-old’s successor and are now close to securing one. That’s according to TuttoMercatoWeb, who say the ‘deal is practically closed’ for the arrival of Lille’s Mike Maignan at the San Siro.
The Rossoneri will pay €17m to the Ligue 1 side and Maignan is expected to sign a five-year deal with Milan.
While Juventus are interested in the keeper, there could be an opportunity for him to go elsewhere.
According to the website, Real Madrid are considering selling Thibaut Courtois and replacing him with Donnarumma, which sounds very unlikely, even if the ‘first name’ on their list is United’s David de Gea.
If De Gea leaves Old Trafford, the Red Devils ‘will have to evaluate a new opportunity’ and this is where the current Milan goalkeeper could fit in. ‘In short’, TMW say the ‘domino’ effect ‘seems to have started’.
Sky Italia also explain Donnarumma’s eight-year adventure with Milan will come to an end after the two parties failed to find agreement over an extension.
These claims are also echoed by Calciomercato, who state the renewal talks with the goalkeeper ‘remain blocked’ and he can leave the San Siro as a free agent this summer.
Meanwhile, multiple reports in England have explained Manchester United have an interest in Aston Villa’s Tom Heaton.
With Donnarumma now in the picture, any potential movements in the goalkeeping position at Old Trafford could depend on De Gea leaving United.
