Last week, we covered claims from the Argentine media that Manchester City are one of the clubs to have shown keen interest in Boca Juniors’ Valentín Barco.

The 19-year-old has been a regular this year and his displays have caught the attention of several teams, including the Citizens.

According to Planeta Boca Juniors, Manchester City ‘plan to make an offer’ to acquire the player’s services.

His deal lasts until December 2024 and the report states it includes a $10m [€9.5m] release clause, which is what the treble winners are planning to offer.

It’s further claimed Pep Guardiola’s side’s idea is to agree a deal with the South American club and then allow Barco to continue his development with them until next summer.

Earlier claims had indicated that Boca Juniors intend to offer a new deal to the player and also increase the clause to $20m [€19.1m]. This is relayed by the news outlet, who then make no mention of Barco’s decision on his future.

Boca Juniors vice-president Juan Román Riquelme was recently asked about the reports linking the player to Manchester City and others, and has urged Barco not to rush when making a decision on his future.

Operating mainly as a left winger, and at times as a wing-back and left-back, Barco has made 22 appearances this year, managing a goal and an assist in the process.
