On deadline day, Manchester City allowed João Cancelo to join Barcelona on a loan deal and the right-back has enjoyed a good start to his spell at the Camp Nou, managing two goals and an assist from four games.
Four days ago, Mundo Deportivo stated the La Liga side have found out a fee of €25m would be needed to convince the Citizens to buy the defender next summer.
Sport now state the Catalan club have to come up with ‘imaginative formulas’ to buy both the Manchester City owned player and João Félix, who’s on loan from Atlético Madrid.
The Catalan club don’t have an option or obligation to make their loan deals permanent and their continuity beyond this season will largely depend on the duo’s desire to stay.
One of the options would be an exchange deal but the newspaper states Manchester City don’t want to listen to it, unless Barcelona offer one of their ‘real stars’ as part of the deal.
Manchester City director Txiki Begiristain and others have already made their stance clear, even though Pep Guardiola doesn’t want Cancelo at the Etihad.
Should Cancelo continue his good form for Barcelona, the more they’ll be under pressure to find a way to keep him.
