Manchester City identify ideal target to fix ‘shortcomings’ – Club ‘open to listening to offers’

Having sold Oleksandr Zinchenko last summer, Manchester City made efforts to replace him.

City failed to sign Marc Cucurella and then ended up taking Sergio Gómez from Anderlecht in the same window.

Gómez is yet to make his first league start as Pep Guardiola has obviously favoured João Cancelo ahead of his compatriot for the left-back slot. This could see Manchester City consider signing a new player in the same position.

Sport state the Premier League winners are ‘attentive’ to Ferland Mendy’s situation at Real Madrid. He’s made 17 starts this season and is the first choice left-back for Carlo Ancelotti.

The France international’s deal expires in 2025 and he’s waiting for Los Blancos to start talks over a new deal. His renewal isn’t a priority for the La Liga champions and they are ‘open to listening to offers’ for the former Lyon man.

Real Madrid paid €50m for Mendy in 2019 and would need a similar figure to sanction his sale. Their idea is to replace him with Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies.

Manchester City and PSG have ‘shortcomings’ in the left-back position and both consider Mendy would be the ‘ideal piece to consolidate that position’.
