Manchester City continue to be linked to Dani Olmo, whose future at Barcelona remains uncertain.

Along with Pau Victor, La Liga granted a licence to register the attacker last summer, but later revoked their registrations, claiming the Catalan side was failing to comply with the league’s financial rules.

But in the last couple of days, it was announced that both can play until the end of the season after the Spanish Sports Council (CSD) upheld Barcelona’s appeal.

Spanish newspaper Sport have reported in today’s edition that the Spain international, during a period when it was suggested he may look to jump ship amid the registration debacle, was being monitored by Pep Guardiola’s side. They also claim that the Cityzens believe Olmo would be an “ideal player for their system.”

The outlet also alluded to yesterday’s news that Kevin De Bruyne will be leaving the Eithad Stadium at the end of the season. Naturally, Man City would be on the lookout for a replacement – and given the Belgian’s talent, there are only a select few of those in the world. Meanwhile, Barca’s financial woes are well-documented and there appears to be no end in sight for them. The club may have to relent if a suitable offer comes in.

Olmo is certainly in and around that mark. Bought into the Camp Nou last summer from RB Leipzig for €55m, the 26-year-old has played 1.408′ minutes this season, providing 13 goal contributions in that time. His season was brought to halt after La Liga made a U-turn on their registration decision but it’s likely he will make a return to the pitch this month.
