West Ham and Wolves have both seen links with Sergio Conceição over the past few days, for what felt like very different reasons.
First came the Hammers, with it being reported the current FC Porto boss was looking for a ‘mega project’ and had received approaches from both West Ham and Lazio.
The idea was the London club would spend big this summer, encouraging the manager to feel that Champions League football could be available in the future.
It didn’t sound a likely link, especially with David Moyes expected to continue where he is. The Scottish manager has done a good job at West Ham, and replacing him with Conceição, which would be a gamble, didn’t make a whole lot of sense.
Then there were the inevitable links with Wolves, on account of the manager being Portuguese, and Nuno Espirito Santo leaving. Those were quickly dismissed in Portugal, where it’s long been thought Bruno Lage will be the man chosen.
Corriere dello Sport now report, with some confidence, that Conceição is set to arrive at Napoli. They say he’ll be presented in the next few days.
Maybe the West Ham and Lazio links were designed to pressure Napoli.
