Manchester City star Bernardo Silva has undoubtedly been having a great time at the club, having now won the club’s Player of the Month award for the second month in a row.
The voting was of course a subject in the Portuguese media, and with national team manager Fernando Santos calling up his new squad today, he was asked to comment on the good form the player is currently in.
It turns out that even though the coach started like he’d say something nice about Bernardo, he ended up making a comment that sounded like he felt the midfielder’s best days are now behind him.
“The best Bernardo may even have appeared at the age of 19 or 20. In training, everyone recognized an extraordinary talent,” said Fernando Santos in a press conference (via O Jogo).
“Bernardo is Bernardo. Two years ago, we all thought he could win the Ballon d’Or, or that he was a very strong candidate of the players that everyone likes to have. An indisputable talent.”
Following Man City’s derby against United on Saturday, Bernardo Silva joins the national team for the matches against Ireland and Serbia in the final fixtures of the World Cup Qualifiers.
The midfielder is a regular starter under Fernando Santos, but may not feel the same confidence from the manager after hearing those comments.
