Girona manager Michel has insisted he is hopeful the club can keep Manchester City’s players at the club next season.

The Spanish boss has been speaking to Sport about the current situation at the club as they plan for a big summer ahead of life in the Champions League next season.

It’s likely to be a busy summer for the La Liga side, who have been the undisputed surprise package in Spain this season and were competing for the title at one point.

The biggest questions that need answering are over the futures of Yan Couto and Savio, two of the key players of this impressive campaign.

Couto is currently on loan from Manchester City after first joining in July 2022 while Savio is on loan from Troyes, another side in the City Group network.

He, though, has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City in the summer, with reports indicating that a move to the Etihad is all but done and he will be a part of Pep Guardiola’s squad next season.

Losing both players would be a major blow for Girona but Michel is holding on to hope at the moment, insisting he’s not been told the players will be going to Manchester City at this point.

“With this squad, if a high percentage of players continues, we can continue at the top of the table. I am convinced,” he said.

“The handicap will be to play three competitions. That is the great difficulty, but with these players I am convinced that we will be at the top next year. It is a spectacular team. The other day I told them that the season is incredible, not because of the final result but because of the day to day.

“Nobody has told me that it is impossible for them (Couto and Savio) to be here next year. I don’t know. If they haven’t said anything to me it’s because it’s possible.”
