Among the big names whose contracts are running out at the end of the season, Ousmane Dembélé is close to the top of the pile.
The Barcelona forward, who has had terrible luck with injuries, sees his deal expire in June of next year, which has sent tails wagging around Europe, including at Manchester United.
The winger, fitness issues aside, remains one of the more unpredictable players in the world on his day, which is why Xavi seems to be doing his best to keep him around at Barcelona these days, with no luck so far.
Mundo Deportivo have an article stating the France international ‘still doesn’t respond to Barca’s renewal proposal’, which is ‘already beginning to tire’ those within the club.
It’s stated that most of this doubt comes from the ‘pressing of his agent’, who is telling him he will earn more money elsewhere, where he ‘plays with the interest of some Premier League clubs, such as Manchester United and Newcastle’.
Regarding the Old Trafford side, the claim is they have ‘positioned themselves to sign him’, although they are yet to ‘make a firm offer to the club in this winter market’.
While Dembélé is said to want to continue at Barcelona, having said as much within the dressing room to his teammates, he doesn’t voice the same desire when chatting to his agent, leaving him to ‘continue to hold the reins of his future’.
The plan would be for him to ‘stay at Barca until the end of the season’, knowing full well they can’t really afford to sit him in the stands if he doesn’t sign a contract, and his ‘idea is to close a stage and open a new one in another league’.
Whether Manchester United are the ones who end up signing is a big unknown right now, especially with Ralf Rangnick taking over until the end of the season, but if there is one club who have the financial pull to convince him to sign, it’s the Red Devils.
