Manchester United have been linked with Barcelona’s Ansu Fati periodically over the past month or so.
Sport have had multiple reports on the Red Devils’ interest in the winger, and they came up with one more update on Friday.
That explained Jorge Mendes, who is close to the 17-year-old’s family, has been ‘talking about real interest’ from the Old Trafford club for weeks.
Fati last signed an extension in December 2019, which saw his release clause raise from €100m to €170m. On July 24th, Sport reported Quique Setién’s side are hopeful of ending speculation around Fati’s future by offering a new contract after this season.
Saturday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo claims Manchester United ‘seems to be the most interested’ in acquiring Fati’s services.
Despite the ‘supposed threat’ from United, Barca don’t see the need to improve the attacker’s contract as there’s no club who can afford to trigger his release clause in the post Covid-19 market.
The La Liga side are also ‘very calm’ about the situation. There’s ‘no fear of his departure’ because of Barca’s good relations with Fati’s environment.
Mundo further explains the conditions included in Fati’s contract, which will come into effect once he becomes a ‘first team player’, after he turns 18 on October 31st.
Apart from his continuity, Barca also guaranteed an improved salary and a new release clause of €400m. Both Fati’s father, Bori, and his agent, Rodrigo Messi had agreed to these conditions.
The new release clause which is set to come in affect later this year will only make it more difficult for any club to take Fati away from Barcelona.
