Manchester United have been chasing Jadon Sancho for several months and the possibility of signing the Borussia Dortmund star looks slim with the window closing this evening.
The Red Devils have reportedly identified Ousmane Dembélé as a alternative player to strengthen their wide positions. They’d prefer to sign him on loan with an option to buy, but this doesn’t please Barcelona.
Ronald Koeman wants his side to sign Memphis Depay and Lyon sporting director Juninho admitted the forward could end up at the Camp Nou on deadline day.
Monday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo explains Juninho’s comments have reopened the door for Barca to sign Depay, but his arrival ‘depends on Dembélé leaving’.
It’s claimed United are the ‘only one that can put money’ down for the 23-year-old, but the Spanish side haven’t received an offer around the €50-60m they want so far. If they do, then Barcelona will make an attempt for the Netherlands international.
United’s interest gets a mention, and they add the possibility of United making ‘one last’ attempt to sign the player on deadline day must not be ruled out.
Sport states: ‘Dembélé has [less than] 24 hours left to know if a season mired in ostracism or an English adventure awaits him.’
Meanwhile, ESPN journalist Moisés Llorens tweeted that Barcelona ‘expect a call’ from United for the former Borussia Dortmund.
An hour later, Llorens then mentioned with no sale of Dembélé, Depay would be off the table.
