Sergi Roberto’s agent Josep Maria Orobitg is in Manchester until Friday.

Manchester United have been, albeit weakly, linked with the player… so of course they’re thrown into a little Mundo Deportivo transfer speculation on Thursday.

In a renewal talks impasse with Barcelona, Roberto has ‘awakened the interest of ‘greats’ such as Juventus, Chelsea and Manchester United’ explain the Catalan newspaper.

Orobitg has made the player’s contract wishes clear to Barcelona, who have in turn set out what they’d like to pay, and right now there’s a sizeable gap between the two parties. That doesn’t mean a transfer is likely, it would be a shock if Roberto leaves Barcelona, a club he’s clearly very connected to.

Sure, the 25 year old would like to be more essential to the club, but he’s played 13 games so far this season and is certainly a used member of the squad. Moving to Manchester United or elsewhere wouldn’t guarantee more game time, and Roberto must be aware of that.

With a €40m buyout clause (something Barca want to raise to €400m), Manchester United could easily afford the fee and it’s not too hard to argue Roberto would be an upgrade on Jose Mourinho’s other versatility options.

But, still, any move is unlikely right now, regardless of which city his agent is in. And if Roberto were to move to Manchester he may prefer the blue side of Guardiola over the Mourinho alternative.

If you’re wondering why there’s an image of a model Sergi Roberto seemingly going to the toilet, let us explain. This year Sergi Roberto has his own caganer, a Catalan Christmas tradition to bring good luck.
