The confidence from the Portuguese media that Sporting full-back Nuno Mendes will get involved in a big transfer this summer continues to be up and down.
Last week, there had been optimism that the 19-year-old would indeed get sold for a big amount of money, but now, newspaper Correio da Manhã is back with not so encouraging news.
The outlet once again claims Manchester City are interested in Mendes and see the player ‘top of preferences’ for the summer market.
However, Pep Guardiola’s side are unlikely to reach the €50m demanded by Sporting, and that means the transfer should be left for later.
It’s said Sporting had the ‘expectation’ to make a big sale with the teenager this summer, but weeks passed and no bids got close to what they demand.
Newspaper Record also writes about the case today, claiming Mendes’ transfer to Manchester City ‘continues in an authentic impasse’, and ‘very probably’, the player should ‘only leave Alvalade in the winter market’.
The outlet highlights Pep Guardiola’s side as the main club in the race, but points out there’s also the competition from Manchester United, Liverpool, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
