Manchester City allowed Patrick Roberts to join Girona on a season-long loan deal in the summer.
After a disappointing campaign last season with Celtic, things did not go as per the Englishman’s plan in Spain. The 21-year-old was restricted to only substitute appearances, but that changed when Portu suffered an injury.
Eusebio Sacristán has started the attacking midfielder in the last three matches and he has managed to impress with his displays.
Roberts’ performance has seen him receive praise as Mundo Deportivo has labeled him ‘one of the sensations’ of the season and suggest he might have a ‘leading role’.
Asked if he’s going to keep his place once Portu returns from injury, the Manchester City loanee said: “You have to always be prepared for when your time comes. It is the coach who will decide. This is a team game and my obligation is to do well when I play.”
The Catalan club has scored 16 goals and Cristhian Stuani has individually contributed 10 of them, he is the leading goalscorer in the La Liga this season.
This has helped Girona to collect 20 points and sit seventh in the table, while Roberts now wants his side to further improve.
“…I think we are doing a great season, especially away from home. Now do the same to go to accumulate points,” he added.
