Since it’s Monday morning, so we decided to cover something a bit different than just your bog standard transfer rumours.
With the international break in full swing, there isn’t a lot to talk about in France at the moment, so Le Parisien decided to have a look at who the most ‘marketable’ French players were, and number one is a big surprise: Hugo Lloris.
Had you asked us that question, our answer would probably have been Paul Pogba, considering he’s one of the faces of Adidas, yet, according to Advent Consulting, whose boss, Jérôme Neveu, was interviewed by Le Parisien, it’s the Tottenham goalkeeper.
He said: “According to our index, Hugo Lloris is the France international who has the strongest marketing value, scoring 140 out of 200. That’s a really good score! He’s followed by Griezmann, who is as popular as (French comedian) Gad Elmaleh with 126. Then you have Giroud, Payet, Pogba, Matuidi and Mbappé”.
Rarely seen in adverts, or even doing interviews, the Tottenham and France captain always comes across as a reserved and quiet person, which makes this result quite surprising.
Neveu explained: “Even if he doesn’t exploit it, his marketing potential is important because he’s the most loved French player, and he personifies positive values. Nearly 50% of people asked appreciate him a lot. He’s the ‘gentle strength’ of French football”.
However, ‘strongest marketing value’ doesn’t necessarily mean the ‘most popular’, as that’s Antoine Griezmann’s title, with 87% of French people knowing him, with Dimitri Payet second at 86%, and Olivier Giroud finishing the podium on 84%.
As for the Spurs goalkeeper? Lloris is fourth win 83%, just ahead of Paul Pogba, coming in fifth at 81%.
