When The Telegraph reported Wolverhampton Wanderers’ intention to sign Willy Boly permanently yesterday, all the Portuguese press did was to cover the claims. But now it seems that Record could confirm the information with their own sources.
The newspaper has a story today saying Wolves will indeed pay Porto €12m to keep the defender in the squad. This amount had already been set in contract when the 27-year-old moved on a one-year loan last year.
The news is taken with a bit of excitement at Porto, as the player hadn’t really been useful for the club when he left for the Championship side last season, and now will represent quite a profit for them.
Having signed Boly from Braga for €6.5m, Porto have paid only €2.75m so far. Now they should settle their €3.75m debt and still get a few million to spend in the summer.
Boly was vital in Wolverhampton’s campaign this season, starting 35 games. Despite being French, he’s one more who came from Portugal to help the club in this historic Premier League promotion.
It must be noted that all previous Portuguese claims have stated Wolves will likely try and get that €12m figure down. They probably will, it would seem strange not to.
