In the past few days, we’ve been seen a bunch of reports saying Liverpool would still be interested in the Santos left-back Zeca.
Some of the stories have been crediting the Italian outlet Il Sussidiario for the information, but their article never said their report was exclusive.
And there’s also Calcio Mercato covering it, saying the original story actually came from the Brazilian newspaper Lance.
However, there’s nothing on Lance’s website, and unless the guys from the Italian press are now reading the Brazilian morning papers, it’s hard to believe that there’s something new in this chase.
Lance did link Zeca to Liverpool once, but it happened at the end of the last year, when they claimed there was a contact between the club and the player’s agent.
Zeca was in great form back then, as he had just won the Olympics with Brazil, and following the move of his teammate Gabigol to Inter Milan, there was a big hype around those boys. Atletico Madrid were said to be in the race for him as well.
But things have been happening differently this season. Zeca has been struggling with injuries, as he made only 26 appearances this year, and is far from fulfilling the potential that everyone expected from him.
The 23-year-old has been barely showing that he deserves a starting place in the team, and as he isn’t standing out in Brazilian football, it’s hard to believe that Liverpool would have a reason to try to sign him now.
But just in case the club kept following him this year and are still impressed, it’s safe to say it wouldn’t be difficult to take him this time. The price should be way less than the €14m paid by Lille for Thiago Maia or the €30m that Inter Milan spent on Gabigol.
