Liverpool are one of the clubs ‘interested’ in Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Denis Zakaria, according to Calciomercato.
The midfielder’s current deal expires in 2022 and he’s far decided against renewing his contract with the Bundesliga side. His situation has caught the attention of various sides across Europe, including the Reds.
Calciomercato state the ‘market continues to ignite’ around the 25-year-old, due to the time left on his contract. From Serie A, Juventus and AS Roma are named as suitors for the Switzerland international.
The two Italian sides will face competition from the Premier League, where the ‘interest is strong’ from Jürgen Klopp’s side.
Mönchengladbach manager Adi Hütter has asked Max Eberl, the club’s sporting director, for signings in the winter market. According to Bild, Gladbach ‘urgently needs to generate transfer revenues’ before bringing new faces to the club.
It’s claimed there are ‘several candidates’ to ‘generate revenue’ and Zakaria’s name is included in the list. Failure from the German club to cash in from his sale in January will see the player leave as a free agent next summer.
With Liverpool maintaining a ‘strong’ interest in the player and Mönchengladbach ready to cash in from his sale next month, there is an opportunity for Klopp’s side to seal the deal.
