Liverpool could offer Luis Diaz a contract renewal this summer, according to reports from the player’s home country.

Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra is the one bringing the ‘exclusive’ news, saying the Reds are considering putting an offer on the table.

Liverpool would then give Diaz a pay rise to reward his importance to the squad. That’s obviously not their only intention, as they also want the winger protected from the interest from rich clubs, with Paris Saint Germain getting a mention.

The Reds will obviously go through big changes in the summer following Jurgen Klopp’s departure, so it seems they want their stars convinced to stay at Anfield in the long term.

Diaz joined Liverpool in January 2022, when the Reds signed him from Porto in a €47m deal. Since arriving in England, he has 24 goals and 12 assists in 90 appearances for the club.

The player remains a regular starter for Klopp in the Premier League, where he’s been in very good form lately. His current deal goes until 2027, and whilst it’s unusual to renew so early, that reflects the relatively low wages he’ll have been given when arriving from Porto.

What Liverpool may not be happy about is the clear effort from the player’s camp to encourage this pay rise, via links with other clubs.
