Georginio Wijnaldum signed a five-year contract at Liverpool when he joined them from Newcastle United in 2016.
The Netherlands international will turn 30 years of age in November and has so far not signed a new deal with the Reds.
The midfielder built his career in his home country, because being given his big break with the Magpies.
Feyenoord signed him for their academy from Sparta Rotterdam in 2004 and after spending eight seasons with the former, he joined PSV Eindhoven in 2011.
Speaking to RTV Rijnmond, the player has now opened the door to return to one of the three Dutch clubs in the future.
“I see myself returning to Feyenoord, PSV or Sparta. I sometimes look at Sparta and then I think, ‘Well, it would be nice if I played there in my final years’,” the Liverpool player said.
“In the Netherlands I have played at three clubs and I have had a very good feeling about all three, but you can only choose one.”
Though he has expressed his desire to return to the Netherlands, Wijnaldum doesn’t want to make any ‘hard promises’.
“I also learn from other players. Van Nistelrooy once made the promise to return, but at a later age he did not want that anymore,” he explained.
Wijnaldum won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup in 2019 and Jürgen Klopp’s side are in a firm position to win the Premier League this term.
Though the Dutchman’s immediate focus is with the Merseyside club, the Liverpool player has discussed his long-term plans for the future.
“What I am experiencing now is unique. You want to play at the highest level and win prizes, like Clarence Seedorf. My dream is to stay fit as long as I can, just like him, Zlatan or Ronaldo. I want to play at a high level until I am 38,” Wijnaldum stressed.
