Ibrahima Konate’s penalty in Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final win over Chelsea has been labelled the ‘ugliest penalty’ ever taken.

That’s according to journalist Nacho González, who says he has never seen someone take a worse but successful penalty.

Liverpool and Chelsea played out a thrilling game in the Carabao Cup final last weekend, with the Reds eventually winning the game 11-10 on penalties.

Both sides had numerous chances to win the game in normal time, but a combination of poor finishing and excellent goalkeeping ensured that did not happen, and the game went to penalties.

Even there, the two could not be separated, with Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga the unfortunate man to miss his penalty and hand the title to the Reds.

One of the successful penalty takers was Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté, who stepped up confidently to dispatch his spot-kick beyond Kepa.

But despite being successful, it seems the technique was not to the liking of González, who was less than impressed.

“The unbelievable thing is that it (the game) didn’t go to penalties with goals,” he told Marca.

“Both had clear chances. I’m definitely a fan of one of Liverpool’s men from today. Ibrahima Konaté’s is the ugliest penalty I’ve ever seen taken.”

Now, we’ve watched Konaté’s penalty a few times, and we’re not sure we can agree on González’s assessment on this.

While certainly not a pretty or particularly good one, it’s by no means the ugliest out there and given it went in, what does it matter anyway?

As far as we’re concerned González is being a little dramatic, and we’d advise him to get on YouTube and look at some of the efforts offered up by England players down the years before labelling Konaté’s the ugliest he’s seen.
