Liverpool FC are interested in the Benfica duo Alex Grimaldo and Flip Krovinovic, Portuguese outlet Jornal de Notícias reports today.
According to the newspaper, the Reds have sent an emissary to watch the the players in Sunday’s game against Tondela, which the Eagles won 5-1 away from home.
Jornal de Notícias has learned that Liverpool consider Grimaldo ‘transferable’. Even though he has a €60m release clause, the Premier League side believe that the left-back could be signed for half of that amount.
As we’ve covered in the past few days, the Reds should not be alone in the race for him. Besides Napoli, who have been linked for a few months now, Juventus and Tottenham have been reported as recent contenders as well.
Now things are a bit murkier regarding Krovinovic. Even Jornal de Notícias doesn’t know Benfica’s position over selling the player, since he just arrived at the club last summer.
There was a small competition for Benfica to get him, with Wolverhampton also linked, but the Eagles ended up landing the player for €3.5m.
The midfielder also has a €60m release clause, and although it’s unlikely that Benfica will demand that much, the price will certainly be much bigger than what they paid as well.
